FAQ's
1. What is the reason for the recall?
The potassium iodide used in batch 42469 was sourced from a new manufacturer and had a larger, crystalline particle size than approved. This resulted in a nonhomogeneous blend, meaning iodine may not be evenly distributed in the capsules.
2. What are the potential risks?
Some capsules may contain no iodine, while others may contain excess iodine. Symptoms of excess iodine can include:
- Burning sensation in the mouth or throat
- Nausea or vomiting
- In rare cases, signs of hyperthyroidism (especially in those with thyroid or cardiac conditions)
To date, no adverse events have been reported, and the likely scenario is that if you have not had an adverse reaction, you have probably consumed capsules that contained little or no iodine.
3. Are any other batches or products affected?
No. This issue is isolated to batch 42469 of Preconception Multi for Women. No other NaturoBest products or batches are affected.
4. Is this a manufacturing error by NaturoBest?
No. This issue originated from a raw material supplier used by our contract manufacturer, who as one of Australia’s largest TGA-licensed manufacturers, also manufactures products for several other Australian brands. Several brands have been impacted.
5. What is being done to prevent this from happening again?
The contract manufacturer is reviewing and strengthening their internal QA protocols, including raw material specifications and particle size testing for microdosed ingredients.
6. What can I take/offer my customers as an alternative?
Prenatal Trimester One with Ginger alongside Iron & Brain Support if iron is required is an excellent alternative to Preconception Multi for Women.
7. Can I trust NaturoBest products?
Yes – absolutely. At NaturoBest, quality and safety are our highest priorities. We are the only prenatal brand in Australia that uses patented ingredients wherever possible, with six patented ingredients featured in our Preconception Multi for Women and Prenatal Trimester 2 & 3 Plus Breastfeeding formulas.
Unlike some overseas brands, all our products are manufactured in Australia under strict TGA regulations, which require batch-level testing and validation before release. In this case, the issue was identified during an internal review—before any adverse events were reported—thanks to the robust quality systems of our Australian contract manufacturer.
This recall reflects our commitment to transparency and consumer safety, not a failure in quality standards. No other NaturoBest products or batches have been affected.
